Welcome, to the Tragick Records website.
My name if Ophelia and I would like to introduce you to our company.
We were founded late in 1998 by both Steve Bergstrom and John Clough.
They had the idea that the labels that supported and represented todays darker
and gloomier bands were 'tragickally' insufficient and so they saw an oppurtunity to
start a company that would not only help promote that 'scene' but also to
help fill that absent void in our genre. Many of the bands, artists, and writers,
were having to look to other indie labels who would try to passify them but could
not truly support them for the true dark artists that they were. Here
is a chance they thought to correct that mistake and do something about it.
At first Tragick Records was to be a platform to introduce
and further the bands and artists here in the NorthWest. Many of these were artists that
they had either the oppurtunity to work with or which they just knew that should
be given a chance to be heard by a larger audience.
Shadow Light was the first band signed. They had just left Ivy Records after
their debut release with them called, "Within the Shadow Light". The new album
on Tragick would be released during the early summer of 1999 and would be called,
"Hello Darkness".
As they would gather their contacts and form business relationships around the world with
their first release, John and Steve began to look to other artists for the second.
pFrenz-C, a long time friend who had appeared in many of the early dark bands
in Seattle, instantly was happy to find a home here. His debut release came out the
end of summer this same year. He was able to use his contacts with fantastic guest musicians
to record with him on this first album, "Dopamine Quest". Recording with him were
musicians from The Swans, Download, Fear of Dolls, and many more.
Ads for their new releases started appearing in such dark arts magazines
such as Outburn, Carpe Noctem, MK Ultra, Voltage, and many more. News of this website
also grew and hits started coming in by the thousands per week. Excited by the great
response, they have decided to open themselves for distribution to other local
bands. Murder of Crows would be the first non-signed band to join the Tragick ranks.
Distribution, it seems, is growing by the day. We now have our artists
being distributed internationally by well know companies such as CDBaby,
Projekt-Darkwave, Amazon.com, Metropolis. and many others. Many new distributors are being
contacted and many more deals are in the works that we are very excited about. More news
on this as it happens...
So here is where I say ado and introduce the rest of us at Tragick. Thank
you for taking an interest in our label and please continue to come back here for updates.
Sincerely and Tragickally,
Ophelia
